Cassie Wangsness is an RRCA-certified distance coach who, simply put, loves to run. Cassie is an experienced coach and marathoner who has completed 12 marathons and two ultra-marathons to date, and who strives to inculcate the love of running in others. In addition to coaching with NYRR, Cassie's coaching experience ranges from coaching a variety of Jackrabbit running programs, to leading youth running programs in Kenya, to working closely with individual runners looking to increase running performance and efficiency.
Cassie loves experiencing new places through the unique perspective of 26.2 miles on foot, and is grateful for the life-changing impact running has had on her world. Coaching others to achieve their personal goals, be it to increase speed, complete a first 5K or first marathon, or anything in between, is a powerful motivation for Cassie to remain committed to her own personal goals. She considers it to be such a privilege to help others discover their own strength, endurance, and love of running. Cassie believes in putting forward extra time and energy required to maintain high standards of work, and forever values finding humor in the everyday routines of life.
Where is your favorite place to run in New York City?
Prospect Park is my beloved home-away-from-home, but there is also something so special about running NYC's bridges and just taking in the beauty and energy of our dear city.
What's your favorite NYRR race?
The TCS New York City Marathon. There's no race or marathon in the world like it, and I love running this race! But even when experiencing this day as a spectator, it is an incredibly humbling and exhilarating experience.
What is your personal running motto?
You just always feel better after a run!
