The NYRR Developmental Track and Field Series presented by Tata Consultancy Services is a comprehensive spring program for kids of all athletic abilities in grades 3–8 currently attending New York City public schools. Students learn about and develop active lifestyles through running, throwing, and jumping events. This program is ideal for schools with running teams, a teacher who has a group of students eager to try a new sport, or an enthusiastic coach-teacher who wants to get kids moving.
The series, which started in 2004, is FREE for all New York City public schools, thanks to a partnership between the New York Road Runners and the New York City Department of Education’s Office of School Wellness Programs.
Schools participating in this free program are invited to a series of fun and instructive track meets held during the school day at locations throughout the 5 boroughs. The events begin in April and culminate with the NYRR DTFS City Championship at Icahn Stadium in mid June. Coaches and teachers are supported with an expert training clinic and a complete track and field training program backed by our online library of videos and resources.
Registration for the spring 2017 season was open from January 19, 2017 through February 28, 2017. The application for DTFS 2017 is now closed.
NYRR supports teachers and coaches with clinics and a comprehensive track and field training program to help them prepare their students for the meets.
The Developmental Track & Field Series meets provide an opportunity for children to be active, sharpen their skills, and develop as track and field athletes.
Participation in the program is designed to be straightforward for all schools.
